Château Vitallis

History & Background

Château Vitallis has a rich history dating back to the 13th century when it was originally built for the Lord of Fuissé. The estate was named in the early 19th century after Monsieur Ange Henry Vitallis inherited it. Today, the Dutron family, direct descendants of the original owners, continue the legacy by cultivating 42 acres of Chardonnay vines in the renowned Burgundy wine region, specifically the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation.

Denis Dutron and his son Maxime employ meticulous winemaking techniques that focus on sustainable practices and minimal intervention. They grow grass between the vine rows to promote microbial life and reduce erosion, using ploughing to manage weeds while preserving the soil’s ecosystem. Their vinification process includes natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts, and they ensure temperature control during bottling to support the wines’ development.

Château Vitallis is known for producing award-winning wines, frequently recognized in various French competitions. Recently, Maxime has taken on a more prominent role in both winemaking and the family business, continuing the traditions laid down by his father. The estate proudly maintains old vines, some over 65 years old, enabling the production of exceptional white wines characterized by their quality and complexity.
