Château de L’Orangerie
History & Background
Château L’Orangerie, a historic winemaking estate established in 1790, boasts a rich tradition that has been maintained through eight generations of the Icard family. Located in the heart of the Entre-Deux-Mers region, south of Bordeaux, the estate is ideally positioned to produce exceptional red, white, and rosé wines.
The property covers 250 acres, predominantly featuring chalk and clay soils over a sandy clay subsoil. Sustainable agricultural practices are implemented throughout the estate, complemented by a state-of-the-art winery. Few family estates possess such a long-standing history; Château L’Orangerie has belonged to the Icard family since its founding in 1790.
Jean-Christophe Icard has overseen the expansion of the estate, which now encompasses 250 hectares of vineyards across the Bordeaux, Loupiac, and Entre-Deux-Mers appellations.
Since 2020, Mathias Icard has joined the family business, where he and his father work in perfect harmony, aligning on key decisions, particularly regarding environmental practices. The Icard family has adhered to sustainable viticulture for over 15 years, achieving HVE3 certification and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System certification for their Bordeaux wines. In 2022, they further committed to social responsibility by obtaining a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) label.
